This study provides the first evidence that Al Wajh Lagoon, the largest coastal lagoon in the Red Sea, serves as a critical reproductive habitat for endangered reticulate whiprays and critically endangered halavi guitarfish. The findings highlight the lagoon’s regional conservation importance and support stronger protection of key shark and ray breeding areas.
