First Record of the Pelagic Stingray in the Red Sea

This study documents the first confirmed occurrence of the pelagic stingray Pteroplatytrygon violacea in the Red Sea, based on a mature male recorded in Jordanian waters in the Gulf of Aqaba. The discovery extends the species’ known range and highlights important gaps in our understanding of Red Sea shark and ray diversity, distribution and fisheries interactions.
